Location: Union Sunday School – 402 Larrabee Street

Description:
Pablo Gorin has recently graduated with the Doctor degree of Musical Arts from University of Iowa, concentrating in Organ Performance and Pedagogy. His recent performances include organ recitals at Sinsinawa Mound Center in Wisconsin, the Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral of Davenport, and Leonhardstrassekirche in Basel, Switzerland. He has performed organ concerts at the famed Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, as part of its centennial celebrations, Ypsilanti Organ Festival, Goshen College, Winnetka Community Church, the Iowa Composers Forum Festival of New Music at the University of Iowa, and the Michaeliskirche of Leipzig, Germany. An active continuo player, his most recent engagements consist of a performance of Bach’s cantatas BWV 18 and BWV 199 for the Iowa Bach Festival; Mozart’s Vesperae Solenne de Confessore, with the University of Iowa Symphony and Choruses; Händel’s Messiah, at First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City; and Monteverdi’s Verspers (1610), under the direction of Dr. Timothy Stalter. Pablo is currently the pianist/accompanist for Sudlow Intermediate School of Davenport, where he enjoys being part of the music department. He has previously served as organist and music director for various congregations, among them St. Ann Catholic church and Grace Episcopal Church of West Palm Beach in Florida, St. Mary of the Visitation in Iowa City, and Assumption Grotto church of Detroit, where he performed concertos and choir masses with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Originally from Rosario, Argentina, Pablo immigrated to the United States with his family in the mid-nineties and attended the University of Miami, where he studied with American pianist Ivan Davis (former protégé of Vladimir Horowitz). After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in piano performance in 2002, Pablo received a full music scholarship from Florida International University to pursue graduate studies in piano performance with internationally renowned concert pianist Kemal Gekic. Pablo then joined the faculty of Miami Dade College in 2004 where he taught music courses for several years. Along with his performing career as a concert organist, he continues to give piano recitals throughout the United States and Argentina.

Pablo is a recipient of the Stanley Award for International Research of the University of Iowa, which enabled him to investigate the manuscripts of the organ works of Alberto Ginastera — the topic of his doctoral essay — at the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel, Switzerland, during the summer of 2015.

The annual Union Sunday School Concert Series features performances by trained musicians on the largest Kimball Pipe Organ in the United States. Built in 1896, the organ was a gift presented by former Iowa Governor William Larrabee to his daughter, Anna, who was the church’s organist for more than 60 years. Union Sunday School is part of the Montauk Historic Site. Admission is free.
