Motor Mill 5K – Postponed to March 23rd
Regrettably, it looks despite our best efforts to make tomorrow’s Motor Motor 5K a go, the rivers and gravels say no.
We will be postponing to the following Saturday, March 23rd, same time same place, when the weather looks considerably more promising. On the bright side, another week of melt is forecasted which will leave the course in much better shape (at least for those without ice spikes), and the weather next Saturday looks positively balmy by comparison. The river is also forecasted to be back down to manageable levels by then.
For now, the Turkey River has flooded into the campground, eliminating our parking, and the road conditions around the mill present significant hazards to our emergency personnel. We’d hate to have the ambulance be necessary at all, but we’d REALLY hate to have it be unavailable to our participants or to any other in-county emergencies because its stuck in the muck.
We know this is extremely bad news for some of you, but its been an extraordinary winter and the hits just keep on coming. We hope you can join us next Saturday, and we hope this is the last time we’ll ever have to do something like this with Motor Motor, but such are the perils of outdoor events around the Ides of March.
Please feel free to email KSlocum@claytoncountyia.gov or call Clayton County Conservation at Osborne, 563-245-1516 if you’ve got any questions, and again, we sincerely regret the inconvenience. Please spread the word if you know of anyone who had planned on same-day registration tomorrow!
