Union Sunday School – Organ Concert – 8-25-2024
History Comes Alive at the Union Sunday School on August 25th
Song-filled theatrical performance about the 1876 presidential election
CLERMONT – The 1896 Kimball Pipe Organ at the Union Sunday School will again grace an audience with its beautiful notes for the 44th annual Union Sunday School Concert Series. August will kick off the series with a fun musical theater performance directed by Janet Schlapkohl.
In commemoration of Montauk’s 150th Janet Schlapkohl has put together a musically comedic theatrical performance based off of the very controversial 1876 presidential election between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel J. Tilden. Local talent from the area will play the parts of Hayes and Tilden and the audience will have a chance to join in the fun!
Following the concert, the Clermont Historical Society will provide refreshments at the Clermont Opera House – one block from the Union Sunday School.
If you’ve never been to one of our concerts, come check it out! The annual Union Sunday School Concert Series features performances by trained musicians on the largest Kimball Pipe Organ in the United States. Built in 1896, the organ was a gift presented by former Iowa Gov. William Larrabee to his daughter, Anna, who was the church’s organist for more than 60 years.
