DES MOINES – Flutist Emile Stene and her accompanist Leslie Poppen will give the final performance in this season’s Music at Montauk concert series next month at the Montauk Historic Site near Clermont.

Stene is a 2017 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where she earned a degree in music education and was named a presidential scholar. As a performer in music competitions, she won the Matheson Award in the UNI Spotlight Series Competition in 2016, the National Federation of Music Clubs Bluhm Flute Award in 2014 and the Karl King Iowa Solo Competition in 2013. Today, she runs a private studio where she teachers flute, piano, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and guitar.

Poppen is a graduate of Luther College and earned a Master of Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Currently, she is a vocal music instructor at North Fayette Valley School, directs the Senior Choir at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union and teaches vocal and piano students. She also sings with the West Union Madrigal Singers and at summer organ concerts.
