CLERMONT –
The final 2018 Classics at Montauk series concert will be held on Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 pm featuring four outstanding local vocalists who will each sing a selection of their favorite solos. Mallory Marlatt Hanson, Craig Moss, Douglas Poppen, and Charles Wagner will be returning to Montauk to provide a great variety of beautiful music.

Mallory Marlatt Hanson is a native of Elgin, IA. She graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance and Music Management from Luther College in 2010. During her time at Luther Mallory sang in the Nordic Choir, performed in multiple fully staged operas, and gave two recitals. Mallory is currently the Project Coordinator of the Northeast Iowa RC&D.

Craig Moss earned his BA degree in music from UNI. He taught vocal music for four years at Essex Community School where he expanded the choir from 18 to 56 members. He performs with the Madrigal Singers, Zion Lutheran Choir, West Union Messiah, and other concerts throughout Northeast Iowa.

Douglas Poppen is a professional tenor soloist and conductor teaching vocal music at the North Fayette Valley Schools. He received a BME from Wartburg and M.A. in Choral Conducting from SUI with postgraduate studies at Northwestern in Evanston, IL. Poppen has been a soloist with the Des Moines Choral Society, Heartland Singers in Wisconsin, and conducts the annual Handel’s Messiah in West Union. Leslie Poppen will be his accompanist.

Leslie Poppen received her B.A. degree from Luther College and M.A. in voice from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Leslie is a vocal music instructor at North Fayette Valley School. She directs the Senior Choir at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union and teaches private vocal and piano students. Leslie sings with the West Union Madrigal Singers and at local Summer Organ Concerts at the Union Sunday School.

Charles Wagner has had a long career as a solo performer. He was an all-state high school singer, four year concert choir singer at the University of Dubuque, and singer at concerts throughout Northeast Iowa. He has sung and narrated for several years at the Union Sunday School August concerts.

The 2018 Classics Concert at Montauk series marks the program’s 13th consecutive year of capturing the spirit of parlor concerts that were fashionable in fine homes during the late 1800s to early 1900s. The concert series is sponsored by the Clermont Historical Society and the State Historical Society of Iowa, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
