Montauk Historic Site’s annual potluck picnic set for Aug. 18
Party like its 1899!!

CLERMONT– Bring some food and enjoy the last vestige of summer during the annual picnic-on-the-lawn at the Montauk Historic Site near Clermont this month.

Picnic-goers are encouraged to bring a dish to share, plus table settings and chairs, and can play lawn games such as horseshoes, badminton and croquet while enjoying live music, trivia and house tours. Local musician Sally Boie will be the evenings entertainment. Montauk will be open for picnic goers to view at their leisure.

Built in 1874 by former Iowa Gov. William Larrabee and his wife, Anna, the Montauk mansion sits on a hill overlooking the Turkey River Valley, surrounded by pine trees, flower gardens and Civil War statues. The Larrabee family often enjoyed picnics and teas on the lawn at Montauk, and the potluck picnic carries on that tradition.
