Clermont – A lot of Americans were living the good life at the turn of the 20th century.

Buoyed by an explosion of economic growth, jobs and technology, a new middle class emerged with more leisure time and disposable income than most Americans had ever enjoyed. And they were eager to spend their time and money pursuing sports, travel and entertainment.

In Iowa, former Gov. William Larrabee and his family joined in and became actively involved in numerous leisure-time activities, a lifestyle that you can come and enjoy at Leisure with the Larrabees, taking place on the lawn at Montauk Historic Site.

Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in Victorian era lawn games such as horseshoes, badminton, croquet, and lawn bowling.

There will be a kids craft area in which kids can make their very own Goldie the Goldfinch.

Visitors will also be able to take free self-guided tours of the State Historical Society of Iowa’s “History on the Move” mobile museum noon to 4 p.m. June 14 through June 17.

Lemonade will be served, and the mansion will be open for tours.
