Montauk concert series continues with pianist Ben Hippen Feb. 18
Decorah native recently completed his third album in New York City

CLERMONT – A Decorah native who recently finished recording his third album in New York City will perform at the Montauk Historic Site near Clermont next month.

Renowned composer and songwriter Ben Hippen will perform “Soundtrack Miniatures: Piano Music by Ben Hippen” 2-3 p.m. Feb. 18 at Montauk as part of the 2018 Classics Concert at Montauk Series. The concert performance is free and open to the public. Audience members can meet Hippen after the concert and enjoy light refreshments.

Hippen recently returned to northeast Iowa to write and perform original music after a long series of adventures. He can be found performing on the first Tuesday of every month at Java John’s Coffee House in Decorah.

In December, he was in a New York City recording studio putting the finishing touches on his third album. The results are available for streaming and purchase on most major online music services, including Spotify, YouTube, Amazon and iTunes. The 2018 Classics Concert at Montauk series marks the program’s 13th consecutive year of capturing the spirit of parlor concerts that were fashionable in fine homes during the late 1800s to early 1900s. The concert series is sponsored by the Clermont Historical Society and the State Historical Society of Iowa, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
