CLERMONT – The 1896 Kimball Pipe Organ at the Union Sunday School in Clermont will again grace an audience with its beautiful notes for the 45th annual Union Sunday School Concert Series. Montauk Historic Site, in partnership with the Clermont Historical Society, is excited to announce that Dr. Charles Barland will be performing for the September organ concert.
Charles Barland was appointed director of the University of Dubuque Choir in 2002 and served as director until 2018. Currently he is Professor of Music and University Organist at the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. As an organist, he has performed throughout the United States and in Germany, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England including performances in Armagh, Glasgow, London, Munich, Boston, Orlando, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Los Angeles, and Honolulu.
Following the concert, the Clermont Historical Society will provide refreshments at the Clermont Opera House, one block from the Union Sunday School.
If you’ve never been to one of our concerts, come check it out! The annual Union Sunday School Concert Series features performances by trained musicians on the largest Kimball Pipe Organ in the United States. Built in 1896, the organ was a gift presented by former Iowa Governor William Larrabee to his daughter, Anna, who served as the church’s organist for more than 60 years.
