2012 Union Sunday School Organ Recital Schedule

The 2012 Union Sunday School organ recital schedule has been announced!
Recitals are free and open to the public.
All recitals are performed using the Historic 1896 Kimball Pipe Organ!

In 1896, Governor Larrabee had installed in the church the largest Kimball pipe organ of its kind (yubular pneumatic action) existing in the United States today. The organ was presented as a gift to his daughter, Anna, who was organist for more than 60 years at the Union Sunday School.  There are 1554 pipes, some more than16 feet high. Encased in a walnut cabinet, the organ consists of two keyboards with 61 notes each and a flat pedal board of 30 notes and 27 sets of pipes. The instrument was hand pumped until 1910, when an electric blower was installed. The organ can still be operated manually.  The organ was restored in 1979 and rededicated on October 19, 1980 begining the annual  recital series.  Proceeds from the free will recital offering funded restoration on the Union Sunday School interior that was completed in 1990.  The organ was restored in 2010 and rededicated on April 18, 2010. The recital series are sponsored by the Clermont Historical Society and the State Historical Society of Iowa.
